Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is one of the largest public research universities in the United States, with campuses in New Brunswick, Newark, and Camden. As a public institution, Rutgers is subject to New Jersey's Open Public Records Act (OPRA), which allows any member of the public to request access to government records — including employee salary information.
This database presents compensation data obtained through Rutgers University's Public Records office. The records include full-time and part-time faculty, administrators, researchers, and staff across all campuses and affiliated medical schools. Salary figures represent annual compensation rates as reported by the university.
To search the database, type at least two characters of a first or last name in the search box. You can narrow results by setting a minimum or maximum salary, selecting a specific data year (2023, 2024, or 2025), and choosing how results are sorted. By default, the top 20 highest-paid employees are shown on page load.
The 2023 dataset contains 36,057 records, the 2024 dataset contains 42,003 records, and the 2025 dataset contains 22,437 records. Combined, the database covers over 100,000 employee salary entries across three reporting periods.
Salary transparency at public institutions is a fundamental principle of government accountability. Because Rutgers receives substantial funding from New Jersey taxpayers, the compensation paid to its employees is a matter of legitimate public interest. Researchers, journalists, current and prospective employees, and members of the community regularly use public salary data to evaluate pay equity, benchmark compensation, and understand how public funds are allocated.
New Jersey's OPRA gives any requester the right to obtain salary records from public agencies including state universities. This site makes that information more accessible by presenting it in a searchable format.
Is this data accurate?
The data is presented as received from Rutgers University's Public Records office without modification. Salary figures reflect the annual compensation rate on file at the time of the records request and may not reflect subsequent raises, promotions, or separations.
Why do some employees appear in only one year?
Each year's dataset is independently sourced. Employees who left the university, changed roles, or were newly hired may appear in only some years' data. The 2024 and 2025 datasets also include employees with a "Separated" status, reflecting those who are no longer active.
Can I request my own record be removed?

How do I request this data directly from Rutgers?
You can submit a public records request to Rutgers University through their official Public Records office. Requests can be submitted online through the university's OPRA portal.
